News from the Mansfield Winery!

We have the most wonderful news! We are progressing on the renovation of our "Ghost Winery". Our plans have been submitted to the county, we have assembled a talented and dynamic construction team and now it's off to the races. Our architect, Juliana Inman, specializes in historic renovation, our contractor, Andrews Thornley is an expert in re-building historic wineries, and our friends at the county are thrilled to see this piece of early Napa Valley history be saved.

And so, to celebrate, we are offering an "End of Vintage" sale to our friends. Our 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon is getting better with each passing year and is approaching that wonderful stage in its life where all its flavors have evolved into magnificent splendor and will continue to improve with age. Our 2004 Merlot has developed into a rich sonnet of a wine and will also continue to improve through the end of this decade.

Therefore, as a way of giving thanks for your support during our first years of winemaking, we are offering a 33.3% discount to you on both of these splendid wines. As you might recall, the Cabernet received a Gold Medal at the New World International Wine Competition, and our Merlot received "Best of Class" at the West Coast Wine Competition. We only have a few cases left of both of these wines. After this sale, we will place the remaining cases into our library and they will no longer be available.

Our Cabernet, which retails normally for $45 is available to you for $29.95 and our Merlot, which retails for $31.00, will be available for $19.95. This offer is only available to those who have purchased our wines previously and is one of the ways we wish to show our appreciation for your support.

We have also started a Wine Club!
We ship 3 bottles of wine, four times per year at a 20% discount on the retail cost of the wine. Additionally, club members receive 20% off on all additional wine orders! We are planning events, recipe sharing, special releases of wine and who knows what else! Give us a call and ask about our club and let us know what you would like to see as a member. The next shipment goes out the end of this month.

Our Cabernet grapes are just beginning to bloom. We generally figure that harvest will take place in 120 days, which would be first week of September. The 2008 wines are gracefully aging in barrel and we will bottle them in the summer of 2010.

This is the proposed site plan for the winery. We have our application in at the county for our permit and with luck (keeping our fingers crossed!) we should receive the go-ahead to begin renovation by July. We are applying for the permit under the "Historic Winery" clause in the Napa County Winery Definition Ordinance. Our architect is an expert in historic renovation and believes we have a good chance to be included in the National Registory of Historic Places!

This is our beloved "Red Door" on the northern side of the winery. This sliding door will open onto the second floor, which will be where our fermentation tanks will be located. Of course, we will re-build the original outside staircase which leads up to the door.
